ELEVATION STUDIES

I began my elevation studies by creating some concept collages thinking about brick arrangment, colour, window placement and size. I wanted to use brick to reflect the choice of material during the industrial revolution in which the education system re-produced a working force. Like the Anarchist Free School is the anthesis of a traditional educational system, I wanted to reflect this "anarchy" in the brick work in the arrangement, pattern, colour - creating arachiac composition through the arrangement of brick. Being the anthesis of traditional brick work.

CONCEPT ELEVATION COLLAGES
elevation north
elevation west
elevation south

The north facade is the first view from passing pedestrains it offers a reflection of the schools anarchic ways. The variety of brick work and colour offers no sense of order, addtionally fixed to the front facade instruments cascade down the wall offering an alternative water capturing system that is used for irrigation.

The south facing facade will be fixed with a green wall -

A series of window studies for my west elevation - arranging the windows firstly by creating a grid, in which the windows are arranged between. Then again thinking about the need for light within the building

WINDOW STUDIES

After my window studies I explored them in more detail by using my previous concept drawings to explore the composition of brickwork -

Through my window studies and concept collages I think this particualr composition reflects the nature of the buildings program and function. ORDER-ing window placement according to the location of the steel frame and light penetration; and then combining the CHAOTIC concept collages I was able to create a composition of brick work and windows that reflected "ANARCHY".
