RADICAL BOOKSTORES

Where Marx and Engels wrote their Communist Manifesto, Manchester has been a very politically active city. With Hulme’s turbulent past and the romanticised vision of the 1960/70s and the misconstrued perception of what it was and how it was viewed; it has fuelled this passion and general consensus of animosity towards those times. It’s made clear that the people of Hulme are very passionate about where they are from, I think it’s important to celebrate that. In the past 5 to 10 years with the resurgence in interest of grassroots politics and activism this has offered an optimistic future for radical bookshops.

ideas shared

Radical bookshops have become venues, too: holding frequent events, from launches to lectures and pre-demonstration meet-ups. It has allowed for a space to share agendas, ideas and plans. Acting as a physical base where like minded people endouvour to turn words into action.
