PRECDENTS
I selected a collection of precedents that included plans, elevation and sections that I could then use to collage with to aid in my preliminary design proposals. I selected the precedents based on my desired program, bookstore and anarchist free school. Buildings with interesting spatial qualties and landscapes juxtoposed with the man-made.
DESIGNED BY PLURAL STUDIO, WITH A CASCADING STAIRCASE THAT ALSO PROVIDES SEATING FOR THE CUSTOMERS THAT TRAVELS CENTRALLY DOWN THE MIDDLE OF THE SHOP.
DESIGN BY ISAY WIEINFELD ARCHITECTS, WHAT INTERESTED BY ABOUT THIS BUILDING WAS ITS ROVOLVING BOOKCASE WHICH BECOMES A TRANSITIONAL SPACE, A THRESHOLD FOR ENTERING THE BUILDING.
DESIGNED BY 24H ARCHITECTS A CENTRE FOR CHILDREN. THE EXPOSED BAMBOO STRUCTURAL FRAME CREATES A VARIETY OF INTERTWINING SPACES WITHIN THE BUILDING. THE LAYERING OF THE BAMBOO STRUCTURE CREATES A TRANSLUCENT FACADE AS A WAY OF ALLOWING LIGHT IN AND CREATING A COMFORTABLE ENVIRONMENT FOR THE CHILDREN TO PLAY IN.
DESIGNED BY UOS ARCHITECTURE. THIS IS BUILDING A FREE SCHOOL FOR ADULTS. UN SATISFIED WITH THAT WAS OUT THERE FOR ADULTS THEY WORKED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH UOS ARCHITECTS TO DESIGN AND BUILD A 'FREE SCHOOL' WHAT WAS INTERESTING ABOUT THIS WAS THE PROTRUDING FORM OF THE BUILDING THAT CREATED AN INTERESTING FACADE AND LAYER TO THE BUILDING.
DESIGNED BY JAMES CORNER THE HIGH LINE ACTS AS A TRANSITIONAL SPACE THROUGH THE CITY OF MANHATTAN. JUXTAPOSED LANDSCAPE OF THE NATURAL AND THE MAN MADE. THE HIGHLINE PERFORMS AS A MEETING PLACE, A LUNCH BRAKE, A WEDDING, A SHOW. THE UNDEFINED SPACES ALLOW FOR IMPROMPTU EVENTS, AND A MULTITUDE OF PROGRAMS
DESIGNED BY MERGE ARCHITECTS, THIS SPACE IN CONSTANT FLUX BETWEEN HOW THE SPACES ARE OCCUPIED AND USED, DUE TO THERE MOVABLE FUNITURE AND OPEN PLAN SPACE. THIS ALLOWS FOR A WORKSPACE TO HAVE THE FREEDOM TO CHOOSE ITS PROGRAM ACCORDING TO THE STRUCTURE OF THE DAY
A LONG SPAN STEEL STRUCTURE, THAT ALLOWS FOR THE ASSEMBLY OF MODULAR SPACES WITHIN THE SPAN OF THE BUILDING. THIS BUILDING IS IN A CONSTANT STATE OF FLUX DUE TO EXPANSION AND DECREASE OF THE MODULAR SPACES AND THE PROGRAMS WITHIN EACH MODULE.
BY TUNRENSCAPE, A RED RIBBON STRETCHES THE LENGTH OF THE PARK. I WAS INTERESTING HOW DIFFERENT PEOPLE INTERPRET THE SPACE DIFFERENTLY AND THE DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES THAT WOULD TAKE PLACE AROUND IT.
DESIGNED/CURATED BY NAVORRO ARCHITECTS THIS FESTIVAL OPERATES WITH IN A LONG SPAN STRUCTURE. WITHIN THE BUILDING A SUCCESSION OF DIFFERENT MODULAR SPACES THAT HAVE THEIR OWN INDIVIDUAL PROGRAM. MUSICIANS, DJS, AND PRODUCERS LIVE HER FOR A SHORT TIME TO WORK AND COLLABORATE WITH OTHER ARTISTS.
TSCHUMI'S PARC DE LA VILLETTE INDUCES EXPLORATION, MOVEMENT AND INTERACTION THROUGH HIS 10 THEMED GARDENS. THE ORGANISATION OF THE PARK IS BASED ON A PRINCIPLE THAT TSCHUMI DESCRIBES AS POINTS LINES AND SURFACES.
