FEATURE STAIRCASE
Within my building I wanted to create an axis, that allowed a clear view through the building from one end to another. I wanted to create a visual connection between student and public to encourage their use of the archive - this opens up a dialouge between public and student and allows for the exchange of information/knowledge.
steel rods that extend the height of the building - fixed with suspended steel tread plates. The design means that occupants views are not impaired by an over bearing staircase - the staircase fits with the buildings aesthetic. The materailty of the staircase was chosen to reflect the steel structure, additionally I've made no attempt to hide any of the connections - similar to how the buildings structure is blatent I wanted to have consistancy in other details within the building.
